Stripping and Recovering...

Feathering My Nest has moved!... come check all of this out over at www.featheringmynest.ca/blog

Here are a few more "projects in the works" shots... the first three photos are from earlier in the week... I tea dyed one of the three free books that I got...  I think it'll need a few more dippings and perhaps some paint...

Steeping a tea bag in a plate of water...

Then I dipped all of the edges... then the front and back... then the edges again...

Yesterday while recovering the second wingback I began the process of stripping the chair I picked up for $5... yes $5... last weekend...

Here it is with the the stripper painted onto it...

I let it sit... then out came the scraper... scrape... scrape... scrape...  Then I broke out the sander...  I need to pick up a sander that has the small triangle sanding head on it so I can get in corners and tight spots...

I can't wait to finish sanding this beauty!.. and I can't wait to get it all painted up and stained!..

And as you can see I've gotten the second chair all refoamed and rebatted... Going to work on the fabric now after the next post about last night...  Cleo of course was helping mostly sleeping on the pile of batting on the floor...

Bring On The Weekend...

Feathering My Nest has moved!... come check all of this out over at www.featheringmynest.ca/blog

I haven't had a chance to work on any projects this week... when I got home today I headed out for a quick walk to take in what the weather forecasters have been saying will be the last day like this for awhile... it was like 24 degrees this afternoon!..  then once I got in I whipped up some french onion soup... Mmm... my best batch yet... then I sat on the couch... I was going to get back at covering that second wing back this evening but nope... not tonight... I was stuck to the couch... Ooo... once I started the soup this evening I did dip one of those books I got last weekend into tea water to test stain it up... I think it'll need a few more dips and rubbings over to get it how I want it to look... snaps to come once I get them complete...

Friday night... Saturday... Sunday... got lots I want to get done this weekend!.. I wanna work on sanding that single chair I got from Pam's sale last weekend to prep it for paint and stain... I need to wax that table I refinished last weekend... I want to get those books stained and twined together... and I'd like to get that second wing back mostly recovered...  What projects are you working on this weekend?

Loves A Long Weekend!..

Feathering My Nest has moved!... come check all of this out over at www.featheringmynest.ca/blog

Who doesn't!?. Accomplished quite a bit... that small table... the second wingback chair is now stripped and in the process of being refoamed and reupholstered... hopefully I can get it completed now over the next couple of nights... we'll see how that goes... I'm paying dearly for the sanding and staple removal now... my forearm and finger tendons are sore and my knuckles are just aching... one year sculpting using pneumatic tools just hooped my arm and finger tendons...

I grabbed a quick shot of the front room that is in the process of being revamped... you can see the second wingback chair that I'm working on now in the bottom left of the picture... I still need to make the cushion cover for the first chair that is at the top left... Ooo... and all of that other clutter up in the top right in there are upcoming projects... stay tuned for those!..

I've really begun to build up supplies now after the past couple weeks... paints and paint gun... sand papers... I'm thinking I'm soon going to need a storage box or tool box perhaps...

I got these two shots on Saturday while we were at the neibs for Turkey Dins... The above shot is Sadie and the one below is Indy...

They're just the sweetest pups...  And here are a few food shots from the weekend...  lots of food was cooked, baked and eaten!..

Potatoes to be riced... I love this colander...

The all important TURKEY!.. Om nom nom nom...

Peas pudding... if you've never had this you must try it... I boiled ours for a couple hours with a cut up onion, salt and beef oxo in the water... we didn't have salt meat to throw in the pot while the peas were cooking... and then I use my stick blender to puree them smooth with lots of butter, salt and pepper... Mmm...

Meaty stuffing!.. this was our first time eating meat stuffing... um... its delish...

And I had to nab a shot of one of Amy's beautiful knives...

Yesterday was leftover turkey time... OMG!.. Fries with dressing and gravy and an open faced hot turkey sandwich... LEFTOVER HEAVEN!..

And throughout the day yesterday turkey soup was simmering away... after I roasted the carcass and cooked it down with veggies for four hours to make the stock... can't wait for turkey soup tonight!..

What do you do with your turkey leftovers?..

Happy Thanksgiving!..

Feathering My Nest has moved!... come check all of this out over at www.featheringmynest.ca/blog

Happy Turkey Day fellow Canadians!  Just sitting down now after a feast of Turkey... all the fixins... and lots of dessert... Mmm... I got a few snaps of that but first... as promised... here is the before and after of that little table I was talking about yesterday...

Here is the table when I got it earlier this summer... I think I got it for only $5... it was that or $8...

Here are the pieces apart and being sprayed...

The pieces after being sprayed... Milo is checking everything out...

Here is the table put back together... and in the picture below it is distressed...  Kinda hard to see it in this picture... I think it needs to be banged up a bit more on the top...

Close up shot of some distressing...  what do you think?.. too much?.. not enough?..

Close up of the little mechanism that holds the top to the post... when you unlatch it the table top flips up vertically... I'm not sure why because it isn't a very big table so it shouldn't have to be flipped up to be packed away somewhere... if you know why this little table does this please let me know!..

And a close up of one of the legs... this was my first crack at distressing a piece of furniture... I think the next piece will be easier...

Now onto the baked goods!..  I made blueberry tarts... the tarts were a press in the pan tart pastry... and the blueberries from home... the Momma brought them up to us freshly picked when she was here last... and we froze the ones we didn't use... so I used a bunch of them today...

We had them with fresh whipping cream... Ooo... they were tasty...  the Newfoundland fog just makes these blueberries the best!..

I also made my first ever Pineapple Upside Down Cake... I was worried it wouldn't taste good...  and that it wouldn't come out of the pan...

Here are the pineapple slices in the bottom of the pan with citron bits and maraschino cherries, on top of the melted butter and brown sugar... Then the batter was poured over and it baked for 53 minutes... cooled on a rack for a few minutes and then "the flip"...

Luckily I have a glass bottom spring form pan... I didn't need to undo the spring... as soon as I turned the pan over we watched the cake drop!.. it was instant and all together!.. success!..

This cake was very easy to make and very tasty!.. Yum!.. I'll definitely be making this one again!..  There is something very 50's about these cakes... they're just so charming...

Did you bake anything for Thanksgiving?..

Oh hey I'm linking up to a pile of linky parties!.. Join in the fun!..  Here is who I'm linking up to:

Busy And Productive Saturday...

Feathering My Nest has moved!... come check all of this out over at www.featheringmynest.ca/blog

So last night I sanded down the little table I got earlier the summer and sprayed it with my new spray gun...

I was super excited so of course I sprayed it on too heavy and then one of the pieces knocked over and the paint smushed... but today I lightly sanded and resprayed and then sanded and resprayed once more... I still have to do a little destressing sanding and then a rubdown with some muddy brown... before and after tomorrow!..

Early this morning I got these treasures at Pam's sale...

Old windows... one with glass... one without glass... um... only $5 each!..

This sweet lion head planter... 2 lion heads on opposite sides... only $1... and I got a painted wooden oval tray that I'm going to sand down and refinish... only $1... no picture of that...

Here's a detail shot of the lions head...

Then I got this sweet wooden chair... $5... I was thinking it would look good a solid cherry red... but then I noticed all of the natural wear on the seat...

So... I think I'm going to stain the seat dark and the two pieces that go across the back dark and paint the rest a creamy cream and then distress those parts a little...

And for another $5 I got this very interestingly shaped folding tray... I thought I had a full shot of it but that must be on my phone... here's a detail shot of the tray hardware... It's why I bought the tray... beautiful handles... so all of these treasures... only $22!.. JACKPOT!..

Then later this morning I got these treasures from a free pile on the side of the road...

I already ripped the covers off of these... I'm going to stain them up a bit and then twine the spines and then twine them together...

Sweet mirror... can you get what colour I'm going to paint the metal?.. yep cream!.. hahaha

Then this!.. A sturdy wood side table... made in Canada... check out the drawer detail shot...

Then I spent the rest of the day stripping the second wingback chair to get it ready to reupholster... my hands and body are just aching now... I also painted the chair's feet and did the other two coats of paint on the little table I was talking about earlier...

The weather was just amazing today... it had to be over 26 degrees out in the front on the lawn... so I worked outside on the wingback chair...

It's grocery time now... then I think I'm going to distress that little table... then watch a movie and chill out with my Furs and the kitties!..  What did you do today!?.

Turkey tomorrow!..

Linking these finds up to The Shabby Nest Frugal Friday linky party!.. join in!..
Oh and Frou Frou Decor and Debbidoos as well!..

Great Find!..

Feathering My Nest has moved!... come check all of this out over at www.featheringmynest.ca/blog

If you're ever at Home Depot, or any store that mixes paint for that matter, wander over to the paint section and have a quick look for mis-mixes... Found this sweet buttery cream for just a couple bones last night!..  I don't have a project for it yet... perhaps that small table that I picked up earlier this summer... or perhaps I'll use it for something that I find at Pam's sale this weekend!..

Yeah!.. 3 bucks!..  I think this is worthy of Show & Tell Friday!..  Join the party over at My Romantic Home!.. Ooo... AND Frugal Friday too...  Join that party over at The Shabby Nest

Happy Friday!.. What are you plans for the long weekend!?.  (Thanksgiving in Canada this weekend)...

Knit Legwarmers...

Feathering My Nest has moved!... come check all of this out over at www.featheringmynest.ca/blog

So I needed something to work on in the morning... I'm going to have 2 hours to burn before I start working for the rest of this week... Chris is working early for the rest of this week... so, I dug out this unfinished project!.. What's that you ask!?  I have an unfinished project!?.  hahaha!.. well lets see if I can finish this one over the next few mornings...  I started these at least two years ago... knit one of them and then started the other and then stopped... not sure why!.. They're from knit.1 magazine that came out a few years back... I don't think they make it anymore... anyway they're supposed to be an over the knee leg warmer but I shortened the first one to stop just below the knee...  I was just looking at the picture of them in the magazine though and I really like them above the knee... perhaps once I get the second shorty one finished I'll start a new longer set!.. ha!.. not even started finishing these and I add another project to my list!..  they would look good with some knee high boots though... hmm...

Need some knee high brown boots... that tanny redish 70's brown... they wouldn't match the boots I'm wearing today at all!..
