Lazy Weekend...

Feathering My Nest has moved!... come check all of this out over at www.featheringmynest.ca/blog

After a long work week and a few Friday afternoon drinkies with the work gang I was just wiped out...  I think I was still awake at 8:30... but not long after that I was out like a light!..

Yesterday Furs and I both just lazed around the house... watched movies... we didn't go out anywhere until the evening when we went for a drive to get a tea and check out all of the snow that had fallen... We must have gotten a foot of snow since Friday evening!..

The sun it finally out shining again today so I don't mind all of that snow!..  Today we've been farily lazy too...  I have a Bacon Cheddar Tart in the oven now... I'm going to start trying a few of the recipes from the Michael Smith recipe book that I got for Christmas... and there is a nice hearty stew on the stove simmering away... I though about baking... and tidying the sewing room but I don't know yet if I have the energy... perhaps a lazy Sunday nap is in order?..  If I get up to anything I'll be sure to take some snaps... in the mean time check out the Bacon Cheddar Tart in progress...

I didn't have a non stick pie pan... so I'm hoping that the bacon won't be baked onto the glass pie pan...c'mon bacon grease!.. save the day!..

I only got a snap of the last and ugliest layer that I did... there were three layers of potato... with onions and cheese in between each potato layer...

All wrapped up... it looks like a bacon bomb...

Here it is all ready to go into the oven for the afternoon!..  Fingers crossed that not having a non stick pie pan won't wreck the final result...

What have you been up to this weekend?..

UPDATE:

So just as I was falling asleep for a nap... BEEEEEEEEP BEEEEEEEEP BEEEEEEEP... the Bacon Cheddar Tart was done!..  and success!.. it did not stick!.. I had to drain the pie pan then put it onto a plate and then put it back onto a flat pan on some parchment and laid it in the oven to crisp up the bottom a little...

And now it just came out of the oven... and its sitting setting up now... in about fifteen minutes we'll be cutting into it... OM NOM NOM NOM... of course I'll have a couple shots of that to add later...

Then perhaps a short nap... :)

Feathering My Nest has moved!... come check all of this out over at www.featheringmynest.ca/blog

So I had to return a pair of shoes that I picked up last weekend but were too big :(
Totally sucks... but I found these instead!..

Eeee!.. stoked!.. and my black flats were toast months ago... so I found these to replace them...

Who doesn't love new shoes!?.  and thanks to my Furs for helping me decide on which ones to get!..

Skating on Lake Louise...

Feathering My Nest has moved!... come check all of this out over at www.featheringmynest.ca/blog

We were rather late getting away yesterday... I tried to sleep in but just had a whopper of a headache... once we got on the go and picked up a pair of skates for me we were off!.. The drive out was beautiful... there is so much snow out in the mountains...

I haven't skated in years... and this ice was bumpy... so Chris pulled me around the ice for most of the time I was "skating"...  Luckily the rink in Cranston is smooth so these skates should get some good use... as long as the weather stays above -20!..

This weekend there is also ice carving festival taking place in Lake Louise...

...so we hung around and checked out the ice sculptures as they were being carved...  then once we were cold we headed back to Banff for supper... We had an excellent supper... I've got a few snaps of it on my phone... I'll upload those later!..  We were going to head to the Bridal Show today but I want to get some work done around the house and chill out and laze around the house... maybe try to organize the sewing room...  We'll catch the next bridal show!..

Blueberry Tea...

Feathering My Nest has moved!... come check all of this out over at www.featheringmynest.ca/blog

Went out for lunch today with a couple work peeps... and for the first time heard about "Blueberry Tea"...

Here my tea is steeping!..  I was stoked to try this out!..

Tea in!.. it was really good!.. Who doesn't like a nice warm drink on a chilly day!..

Then for lunch we all ended up with the Lobster Mac & Cheese...

It was some good lunchtime comfort food...

Happy Friday Eve everyone!.. Do you have anything planned for the weekend ahead!?.  I think we're going to head up to Banff for the day on Saturday... and then Sunday... the Wedding Fair!.. :)

Deadly Burgers...

Feathering My Nest has moved!... come check all of this out over at www.featheringmynest.ca/blog

...before I get to the burgers check these out... I had to head downtown after work today to check out lighting on a work project... my Furs came with to lend a hand...  and I snapped these shots while he was helping...

We were cold and hungry by the time we finished up so on the way home we popped into Five Guys in Deerfoot Meadows to pick up some supper...

The place was packed... but they moved quickly... when we got home I turned on the fire place to warm up and we picnic'd on the living room floor...

The bags were greasy from the french fries... but the smell coming from the bags was Mmm Mmm...

They put in lots of napkins!..

Ooo... Ahhh... they really know the meaning of bag fries at Five Guys... after they put in our burgers and my order of fries they dumped in a whole pile more...  literally... they dumped a container of fries into the bag!..

And then more fries were dumped into the second bag that held Chris's Cajun Fries... Ooo... Ahh... oh so good... they make real "home" fries... like real home made french fries... no bagged and frozen fries here!..

Once I wrestled the burgers out of the pile of fries and got it out of its foil it was a little squished... and rather ugly looking... but it had just made the trip down the Deerfoot to our house and was still nice and hot... I was not complaining!.. AND it was delicious... I went easy and got the small bacon cheesburger and added mayo and grilled mushrooms... t'was tasty!..

Real home made goodness... with some left over bag fries!..

Thanks for the tasty treat Five Guys!..

Now to snuggle down and watch Republic of Doyle... if you haven't seen it before you should check it out...  Lots of beautiful shots of St. John's in there!..

What to do at 6:40am...

Feathering My Nest has moved!... come check all of this out over at www.featheringmynest.ca/blog

...what to do?.. wide awake... 6:40am... I tried rolling over and going back to sleep but no luck I was wide awake... I couldn't fall back asleep so I got up... finished tidying the kitchen... threw some laundry in the washer... the new washing machine still makes doing the laundry fun... and now everytime I'm in the basement I get super excited about finishing the basement and thinking about how we're going to lay it out and then all of the finishing details and decorating options...  We took all of the measurements around the basement the other night so that we could get a drawing together for our building permit... today before my hair appointment... yikes my regrowth is aweful... hair needs colouring and a trim bad... and not to mention my bangs which I've been trimming... they're sort of out of sorts!.. okay... anyway we're going to check out the new Lowe's... to see what they might have for our basement... well the washing machine just sang its song so heading back to the basement to change over the laundry and to think about some basement decor!..

Non Stop All Weekend...

Feathering My Nest has moved!... come check all of this out over at www.featheringmynest.ca/blog

Aaaand another weekend bites the dust...  We finally decided what to get for a new vehicle... We got another Escape... except this one has all of the options we wish  a had when we got our last Escape... Auto start... Leather heated seats... Navigation...  and we've purchased this time... not leased... if we had realized that we were going to burn so many kilometres we would have purchased our previous Escape!...  So that took up most of Saturday...

Saturday evening we went out for supper with A&B... we went back to MUKU... next to Globefish in Kensington...  I had the Miso Wonton Ramen and the Cheshu Rice... and a salad... so good... and their green tea is excellent... I don't like green tea anywhere else!.. but at Muku its so good!..

After supper we headed over to Mirage for tea, and cards and shesha... best flavor yet... Mango mixed with White Grape... You have to try it out!.. Then after a couple hours at Mirage we all headed to the movie theatre to see Tron 3D IMAX!..

Sunday... groceries and laundry and house tidying... this week our goal is to try to keep the house as tidy as possible throughout the week so that next weekend we don't have to devote much of any time to cleaning the house!.. There we're still boxes of Christmas decorations all around the main level so I brought them down to the basement... there is room for them there while the basement is getting finished... I grabbed a few shots of some pieces I'm putting together for the basement...

Check out this basket from Crate and Barrel... it was HALF price!..  I couldn't leave it behind!.. Its going to hold a few cozy blankets... different woolly knits...

This beauty above is a square foot of little tiles... I think I will use this tile as my inspiration for the basement laundry room and bathroom...  Cool blues and crisp whites... light and airy...

We've picked up a few supplies... outlets and light switches... and a dimmer with a remote for the living room... There is a Lowe's just opened today down by our house so we're going to check that out this weekend to do some comparison shopping and perhaps pick up a few more supplies... The wood for framing is the first big basement purchase... I'm thinking that'll happen in a couple weeks time... we have to put together a drawing for the building permit application...

In the mean time... check these out...  Its the basement now...

Above... this is looking back at the steps and down into the front of the house... there will be a bedroom and storage area up there...

The hallway will be to the left side there as you are looking at the front of the house... and are standing in the living room... just down the hall a couple steps the laundry room will be off to the right... you can see the green tape lines going back from the front sides of the photo that's where the walls will be...  I'm thinking white bead board halfway up the wall and a nice light blue for the walls... I would like to tile the floor with those glass tiles up above... there will be white cabinets above the washer and dryer and then a tall skinny cabinet up the left side of the washer and dryer... as well a countertop across the top of the washer and dryer...

This view is from standing in the living room area which is at the front end of the house...

Then in this shot I'm standing at the back of the house in what will be a spare bedroom... there will be a bathroom as well right in front of where I'm standing and to the right a large storage area...

Have you ever finished a basement?.. got any tips or pointers to share!?.  Lemmie know!..

Bring on the Weekend!..

Feathering My Nest has moved!... come check all of this out over at www.featheringmynest.ca/blog

I'm ready for the weekend!.. We've just been pooped all week so far... the first week back after a nice Holiday break... falling alseep early every night this week so far... I expect to be asleep here pretty quick again this evening!.. needless to say I've not been working on anything in the evenings other than supper and tidying up after supper!.. This coming weekend is going to be mostly resting... with just a little tidying... we have to find a place in the basement for all of the Christmas decorations while keeping room for framing and wiring the basement... lots of resting... and perhaps a bit of work on some projects that have been started and not yet finished... some quilting perhaps?..

Not having been working on any projects since Christmas I don't really have anything to show you at the moment... so I'm going to take inspiration from Leigh... awhile back she was short of things to blog about so proposed to her blog readers to email her some questions that she would answer in the following blog post(s)... so I'ma do the same!.. so ask away!.. and my next post I'll post the questions and answers!..

Hope your week is going well... tomorrow is Thursday... the weekend is near!..

The House is Undecorated...

Feathering My Nest has moved!... come check all of this out over at www.featheringmynest.ca/blog

Here's a shot of NYE's pulled pork sammiches!..  well my sandwich in particular... there was salad as well but I had to pass... it was all about this sandwich!..  We slowcookered a rather large pork roast on high all day... then once it was cooked I drained the liquid... shredded the roast and then threw in a bottle of Diana's Chicken and Rib... I also mixed a little of the roast liquid back in... threw the lid back on and turned it on low for half an hour...

It was Mmm....

Then yesterday and today we undecorated... All the decorations are down... the tree is undecorated and all boxed up... Here's a couple shots of Milo helping undecorate...

The boxes of decorations haven't been packed away yet though... we're beginning to finish the basement!.. part of yesterday was spent cleaning up the basement to get it ready to be framed in... so looks like these boxes of decorations will live out in the front living room for a little while...

Ooo... and also to get the basement ready to be finished we picked up an LG washer and dryer set from Home Depot today!.. on a wicked sale!.. and we got some pot lights for the basement too... they were also on sale!..  I can't wait to get working on the basement!.. stay tuned for progress shots!..
