Chalkboard Top Table...

Feathering My Nest has moved!... come check all of this out over at www.featheringmynest.ca/blog

Another project complete!… chalkboard seasoned and a design drawn on!… glass cleaned up and dropped on to protect the chalk and she's ready for the show in June!…

…but first a quick recap of how it looked… and what I did to get it refinished!… check out the previous post for some additional in progress shots!…

It stated out as a more than well worn old table… all of the veneer on the top was chipped and lifted all over the place…

We… Oliver and I (clearly)… flipped it over and removed the trim as it was only screwed on… luckily there was no glue to fight with… once this was off I scrapped all of the remaining veneer off and was left with a flat wood surface… as it was going to be a solid colour I didn't mind taking all of that top veneer off…

I hit it with a couple of coats of Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint in Grainsack… the first coat I also used some Miss Mustard Seed Bonding Agent… as I didn't want to do much sanding before getting at the painting!…

Once the couple of layers of paint were nice and dry I gave it a light sanding and chipped off any spots that were lifting… then for the fun on the top… as the trim sits in slightly from the edge I taped the edge to keep it grey…

BAM!… on with two coats of chalk board paint… then waiting… I'm not great at waiting… I just want everything to be finished RIGHT NOW!… tee hee hee… I just get excited to see the finished piece!…

Once the chalkboard paint dried the trim was screwed back on… then I had to wait… I had to wait three days before I could touch a piece of chalk to the top… the night that it was ready to be seasoned I was late getting home from work but I went at the table anyhow… I had to work on it!…

Even when there isn't anything drawn on it the dusty charcoal grey table top looks sweet with the grey paint on the rest of the table…

…but I couldn't just leave it… so I hit up the Graphics Fairy to see what would look good chalked onto the top… Like I had done with the Tea Trolly top… tattoo stylee…  I transferred a rough outline in chalk onto he table top and then went at it with chalk… eraser and q-tips… the q-tips helped cleanup some small areas here and there and help me to get a little more detail that I can get with the fat chalk sticks…

When I finished this up I was so excited… it took forever to fall asleep!… I can't wait to show this piece off at the show in June!… I'm so excited to see what people will think of it!…

I've dropped the round piece of glass back onto the table top to protect the chalk drawing from kitty feet… and any thing that may be laid on the table top… I plan to sell this one with the design and glass on but the owner of can change it up as often as they like!… I think I'm going to end up with a few pieces that have chalk board areas on them… I really love the look...

Saturday morning my Pickle and I ran out to pickup a few more treasures that I'd secured… Here's a sneaky peak!…

And this sweet petite dresser… at first I wasn't sure what I would do with it… if I would even paint it… but Chris and I talked about a few different options and came up with a plan!… ;)

This petite dresser would work perfect in a small bedroom… walk in closet… even in a dining room, living room or larger entryway!… it's not too small for a bedroom at all… and its definitely not too large that it can't be used elsewhere in the home…

I can't wait to get this one started!… only I have to pickup some supplies before I can really get going on it… stay tuned for this sweet petite!…

Today was a pretty chill day… Pickly and I got a few things done around the house and I had just run out my Clinique BB Cream so I made a quick trip to Shoppers to pick up a new tube… and well they had some deals on… so I picked up a couple of other items that I was running out of and got this sweet kit of samples for free!… and there are some large sized awesome treats in here!…

To finish off the day I had a green soak with another Lush bath bomb… I love these things…

How was your weekend?… get any projects wrapped up?… do anything for St. Patrick's day today?…

Another Project in Progress...

Feathering My Nest has moved!... come check all of this out over at www.featheringmynest.ca/blog

Last weekend finished off with a nice Lush bath… what's not to love about a Lush Bath Bomb!?…  smells… so… good!… Tonight there is no time… it's late… we're pooped… I love getting an extra hour of daylight but I dislike losing an hour!…

I could have used one of these every night last week… Let's just say I much prefer my four day work weeks to my five day work weeks… this coming week is a four day work week… yay…

Morning elevator outfit check!…

Friday I went in to get my hair did - it was regrowth touch-up time… and well I've been getting bored of my hair as I've been trying to grow it out… so instead of cutting it off I had it toned super purply… it'll last a week or so before it fades back out to a blond…

So… that table I picked up last weekend… I got at it this weekend… it's not totally complete as the chalkboard paint on the top needs to cure before I can season it but here is a sneaky peak of the table in progress…

The top veneer was done like dinner… terrible water damage… so I scraped it off… sanded the underwood nice and smooth… oh… not before taking of the trim around the top edge though… luckily it was only screwed on… no wood glue to fight with…

Of course the kittie inspector had to check everything out as it was taking place… Mew!…

I went at this table with Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint in Grainsack!… such a light delicate grey…

Then, as the trim sits in a little from the edge, I threw down some painters tape to keep the very outer edge grey… then I hit the top with a couple layers of chalk board paint!… This table is gonna be cute!…

I've got some mega chips… and the paint naturally crackles here and there… especially after being oiled down with Miss Mustard Seed's Hemp Oil…

I'm picky… so I went in to do a little touchup here and there… The top has to cure for three days before I can season it and chalk out a design on the top… I'm going to sell this one at the Vintage sale in June… I'll chalk out something sweet and drop the piece of glass back on the top to protect it for the show… the glass will go with the table so that its owner will have the option to save their designs under glass if they wish!…

And here is another sneaky peak… I have an amazing friend who has recently replaced their old wood house windows… ERHMERHGERD!… and guess who she bestowed these amazing old wooden windows upon!?… YEP!… meeee!…

…check out these beauties!… eeep!… stay tuned!…

Ooo… and I have some bird's nests coming… ya… I just said bird's nests… more to come on that too!…

OHHH!!… And I'm super excited… but I don't want to say too much yet but I have something in the works!… something exciting!… more to come real soon on THAT too!…

I hope you had a nice weekend!…

Refinished Tea Trolly...

Feathering My Nest has moved!... come check all of this out over at www.featheringmynest.ca/blog

Well… I've done it!… finally!… it's been over a year in the works but I've finished it!… being in the Vintage Sale this coming June is really motivating me to get projects completed ;)

I started refinishing this one by taking it all apart… the two wings that lift up and the large wheels… the removable tray came out and the drawer… and giving it a light sand all over…

Then I went to it with some Annie Sloan Chalk Paint… in Original… a nice sweet cream… amazing coverage and not really much sanding required before you paint it…

I gave the painted finish some all over sanding to smooth out the paint and to distress the piece all over… Then I put the cart back together…

Then this is where the fun really began… I found some great images on the Graphics Fairy website… go and check it out if you're looking for some great images…

I painted the crown and frame on the pull out tray...

Then on the top I traced out and hand painted in a large french logo…

Most of the painting was done while Chris and I were catching up to the current episode of the Walking Dead… I'm surprised that I managed to keep my lines clean… there were a couple of points where I actually shrieked at the show!… hahaha…

I used a grey tole paint… just your regular old acrylic craft paint… a small round brush and some water to thin the acrylic paint as I was painting…

I picked up a few different knobs awhile back at Anthropolige… and this glass one above works perfectly… if you are looking for some perfectly perfect knobs then check out Anthro…

Instead of waxing this piece I used Miss Mustard Seed's Hemp Oil…

Our chalk board wall came in quite handy when I was finished this tea trolly… It made a sweet backdrop to shoot the cart against!… Time for a lot more pictures…

Now this afternoon we're watching more Walking Dead… our last three episodes until we're fully caught up and ready for the new episode tonight…

…but before we got to this point of chilling out… my little family here bundled up on the couch with the fire place on and some pink bubbly in hand… we headed out this morning…  ohhhh at around 9am… the snow was just starting to come down in a heavy dusting… I'd found some kijiji treasures and my sweet Pickly took me out in a snowstorm to pick them up!…

I scored this amazing antique table…  and these two large ottoman… bring on the burlap!…

Be sure to stay tuned for the transformations of these three new finds…

What have you been up to this weekend?… any treasure hunting?… any project work?…

I gotta linke up to some parties with this one!…
